Can Anderson-Shiro CISD Afford To Be $133,000,000 In Debt?

Can the district afford to be $133,000,000+ in debt from school bonds? Can taxpayers?

Anderson-Shiro CISD is still paying on TWO previous school bonds from 2008 & 2013.

Voters sent a message in May 2023 when they defeated a $44.5 million bond package. Voters sent a message to ASCISD they wanted more affordable option presented but instead of going back to the drawing board and looking at the current needs of our rural 3A school district, the proposal has been increased to $60 million with a $55 million asking price to build an 86,000 sq. ft. elementary school. That is $639/sq. ft. which is more than double the national average of $239.21.

We support our school, teachers, students and community but we do NOT need extravagance to educate our children and large shiny buildings do not equal providing an “epid” education.

We agree there needs to be a plan for growth but NOT this plan. ASCISD needs to provide an AFFORDABLE plan for both the school and taxpayers that aligns with a rural 3A school district. This current proposal will put ASCISD as the highest tax rate in Grimes County, surpassing both Madisonville ISD and Navasota ISD.

Vote AGAINST overspending. Vote AGAINST PROP A on November 5, 2024
